University of Illinois Soccer Player Hosts Free Soccer Camp | Best Stories

CHAMPAIGN, III (WAND) – Football dreams come true for kids in central Illinois as they prepare for a free football camp hosted by Fighting Illini Tailon Leitzsey.

Leitzsey and some of his teammates organized a free soccer camp for the kids, “anyone can go out, you don’t have to live in Champaign-Urbana, to come here. But yeah, we’re just trying to trying to give back to the community. ” He said to BAGUETTE. He first came up with the idea when he noticed the recent increase in gun violence in crime in his community.

“I saw the increase in crime and it was really something that touched my heart so I got the idea to do something, to give back and what better way to do that than to do something I love to do anyway and just share it with everyone. ”

Children from all over central Illinois came to the camp for drills, positioning work, football basics but also for in-depth football discussions. He says, “We want to give them the kids’ experience of what we’re going through, if we’re getting ready to go into an NFL Draft so that they have that experience as well.”

One parent said she was happy to see the players doing something for their youth, Diana Mendoza told WAND News: “I am so excited that they are taking their time out of their day to help these kids, the kids. get them, get them motivated because I feel like it starts very young. ”

This is the first free camp the Illini has hosted, but Leitzsey says it won’t be the last. They plan to make the camp an annual event.
