Soccer Roundup: Forbush and Starmount claim league wins

The Forbush Women’s Football Team bounced back from a tough loss on Wednesday night to defeat East Surry 3-1 on Thursday night at Pilot Mountain.

The Lady Falcons secured the Foothills 2A conference victory after Wilkes Central handed them a 9-0 loss at Moravian Falls the night before.

University of Arkansas signing Zoe Susi led the Lady Eagles (11-2, 7-0) with five goals in the win.

Forbush, who is now 6-1 in league matches and 7-4 overall, received a goal from Samantha Post and a pair of scores from Skylar Southard in the win over East Surry (5-4- 2, 2-3).

The Lady Falcons hosted Surry Central on Tuesday night and traveled to former Conference foe West Piedmont West Stokes on Thursday.

The Starmount Lady Rams also put one in the win column with a 5-3 win over Alleghany on Thursday night at Woodruff Field in Sparta.

Starmount’s win moved them to 2-2 in Northwest Conference 1A play and 5-5-1 overall.

The Lady Rams, who led 4-1 at halftime, saw four different players score in the victory. Rookie Amy Ocampo had a big day as she scored twice and assisted on two more goals.

Allison Vazquez, Crystal Ruiz and Meyli Carrasco also scored in the win. Vazquez and Mariana Arroyo also got assists. Hazel Pasley led the Lady Trojans (2-3, 2-3) with two goals.

Tania Lorenzo-Cortez was solid in front of goal for Starmount with 10 saves.

The Lady Rams faced East Wilkes on Tuesday at 5 p.m., but suffered an 8-1 loss at home Monday night to co-conference leaders South Stokes. Ruiz scored Starmount’s only goal in the game.

East Wilkes and Elkin drop in league tilts

The Lady Cardinals and Lady Buckin’ Elks found themselves on the wrong end of their Northwest 1A conference games last week.

Elkin fell behind early in their league opener at Mount Airy and lost a 3-1 decision to the undefeated Lady Granite Bears.

Alla Summers scored the only goal for the Lady Elks in the loss. The defeat dropped Elkin to 4-2-1 and 0-1 in the league ahead of their match on Tuesday at South Stokes. The Lady Elks return home on Thursday to face North Stokes.

East Wilkes lost a 9-0 decision at South Stokes to fall to 3-9 on aggregate and 1-3 in conference play.

The Lady Cardinals, who hosted Starmount on Tuesday and traveled to Mount Airy on Thursday, received attempted shots from Ana Aguilar and Valerie Schubart.

Kierstin Dowell had nine saves in goal for East Wilkes, who finally entered the conference win column on Monday night with a 1-0 win over North Stokes.
