(Reuters) – Mason Mount and his England teammates have Lando Norris in their sights after Formula 1 driver McLaren’s brother installed racing simulators during their Euro 2020 training camp.
Norris told reporters at the French Grand Prix at Le Castellet that some of the players sent a message saying they were trying to beat his Brands Hatch benchmark lap.
“I know some of them have been on the simulator trying to beat one of my lap times that I did at Brands. I don’t think any of them have yet. I know Mason said he was trying to beat me, ”he said.
Norris said the Chelsea midfielder sent him an English shirt and he would wear it when he could watch.
England face Scotland at Wembley in a Group D game later on Friday.
“There are a few guys out there who really want to race. I said it would be great if they could come to Silverstone but obviously they can’t because the football is going on and they are very busy next month, ”said Norris.
“It’s a shame, but I hope in the future I can get a few. “
Norris, an avid gamer in his childhood and an occasional Bristol City fan, said he follows England to major tournaments but otherwise doesn’t watch much.
With a Belgian mother and a German team boss, Norris also looked forward to a friendly rivalry.
“If my mother asks me who I support, I will say Belgium. So I am divided. I would like them both to be successful, ”he smiled.
“I really hope we can take on Germany and crush them just so we can laugh at Andreas (Seidl) (principal). It will be my year if that happens.
