ANNAPOLIS, Md.—Senior offensive tackle kip frankland was named captain of captains by the captains of the varsity teams of the Navy’s 35 varsity athletic programs. Frankland is the third Navy football player to hold the position in the past four years. Ford Higgins was selected for the 2019-20 academic year, while Mychal Cooper was honored in 2021-22.
Frankland will lead discussions once a month with all team captains on how they can improve what they are doing with their individual teams and as a group.
Frankland, who was voted three captains by his soccer teammates with John Marshall and Bijan Nichols, started 15 games and played in 21 games during his career. He will have the honor of wearing number 68 this year in memory of David Forney.
Frankland, who was the only Navy offensive lineman to start all 12 competitions last year, earned All-East honors a year ago and is expected to anchor a promising offensive line in 2022.
The Navy will kick off the 2022 season at home Sept. 3 against Delaware, then open the American Athletic Conference the following week at home against Memphis.
The Mids will also host Tulsa (10/8), Houston (10/22) and Temple (10/29) at Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium and Notre Dame (11/12) at M&T Bank Stadium in Baltimore.
The annual Army-Navy game presented by the USAA will take place on Saturday, December 10 at Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia.
