Rivalry result scrambles the top level of the Grand Rapids area men’s football standings for the week of October 4

The Holland Christian-Holland showdown last week caused a stir in the top 10 level of men’s football for the Grand Rapids area.

Last week’s games closed the regular season for many teams in the region, with the playoffs and conference tournaments coming up.

Here is the ranking for this week:

OUT: Wyoming Lee, Grand Rapids Christian

IN: East Grand Rapids, Grand Rapids Union

No. 10 East Grand Rapids (6-2-7)

The Pioneers are the kings of ties. Last week, they tied Grand Rapids Christian (4-4) and a good team Reeths-Puffer (1-1) to lead their unbeaten six-party streak before the OK White conference tournament this week.

No. 9 Grand Rapids Union (9-2-2)

The Red Hawks make the Top 10 this week as they extended their unbeaten streak to seven with wins over Ottawa Hills (4-0) and Byron Center (2-0). They have a second share in the OK Green.

No. 8 Thornapple-Kellogg (12-2-2)

The Trojans only played once last week and managed to extend their winning streak to six with an out-of-conference home win over Lowell (6-2).

No. 7 Rockford (10-3-3)

The Rams, after beating Jenison (3-0), tied Ottawa West (2-2) in a conference clash and then stopped Portage Central, 2-1, to wrap up the regular season. The last matches of the OK Rouge Tournament are this week.

N ° 6 Christian Unity (12-3-1)

Two tries and two wins last week for the Crusaders, who beat Grand Rapids Christian (3-2) on the road and Wyoming Lee (3-2) at home.

N ° 5 Holland (10-3-2)

The Dutch played one game last week due to a cancellation and it was heartbreaking – a 3-1 non-conference loss at home to Crosstown rival Holland Christian. The Dutch, whose scheduled home game three days later against Forest Hills Northern was called off, have claimed victory in their last four games. The OK Green conference tournament begins this week with the Dutch as the No.1 seed.

No.4 Holland Christian (10-1-2)

The Maroons had a big week and came off spectacularly. They knocked out the previously top-ranked and city rival Holland, 3-1, then shut out difficult Grand Rapids Christian, 1-0.

No.3 Calvin Christian (16-1-1)

The Squires played six games in 12 days and won them all by a combined score of 33-3. They hold a two-game lead in the OK Silver at 12-0. Their only loss was almost a month ago at Unity Christian.

No. 2 East Kentwood (13-1-1)

The Falcons took care of the two OK Reds on the schedule last week – against Grand Haven (4-1) and Hudsonville (2-0) – to set up a rematch against West Ottawa. The Panthers handed the Falcons their only loss this season, 3-2, on September 9.

N ° 1 Christian South (13-0-3)

The Sailors enjoyed their second straight three-game week and, as they’ve been all season, have gone undefeated. All three non-conference wins came against Byron Center (2-0), Forest Hills Central (6-3) and at home against Haslett (4-0). Regular season champions OK Gold open the conference tournament this week.
