Quick start takes PCM football beyond the Atlantic – Newton Daily News

MONROE – The PCM football team used a fast start to race down the Atlantic at home on Friday.

The Mustangs scored four times in the first 12 minutes to claim a 4-1 win over the Trojans.

“The quick start was huge, but then we got sloppy,” said PCM football coach Darrin Telfer. “We have to keep playing together and working as a team.”

Tyler Kuecker scored the first two goals of the game and Carson VandeLune netted the last two. VandeLune scored PCM’s final goal of the game with 28:47 left in the first half.

Caden Bouwkamp and Jacob Elrod each had assists for the Mustangs, who improved to 2-1. PCM took 13 shots and registered seven shots on goal. The Atlantic fell to 1-2.

Alex Egland and Kaden Clark shared time in front of goal. Both goalkeepers played 40 minutes and Egland made the only save.

Kuecker now has seven goals this season, which ranks him tied for seventh in Class 1A.

“We replaced a lot and got a lot of minutes for our kids,” Telfer said. “Both goalkeepers played well.”
