The Superior Spartans women’s soccer team held the line for one half, but the visiting Eau Claire North Huskies scored three second-half goals for a 3-0 win at the Big Rivers Conference on Thursday, May 19 at NBC Spartan Sports Complex.
The teams were deadlocked at intermission, but Abbey Liddell, Sydni Schindler and Halle Steinmetz put the Huskies ahead.
Superior recognized eight seniors in their last home game. The Spartans are expected to wrap up their regular season Tuesday at Menominee.
Senior Trent Mayer shot a 4-for-75 to lead Northwestern to the Heart O’North Conference Championship on a wet day at Turtleback Golf Course in Rice Lake.
Mayer was the medalist by four shots ahead of teammate Bryce Priem and Ladysmith’s Keegan Steckel, who both shot 79.
Northwestern compiled a team score of 322, 18 better than runner-up Hayward.
It is Northwestern’s fifth straight league and conference tournament title.
Hayward 4, Northwood/Solon Springs 2
The Hurricanes limited N/SS to two hits, both by Bailey Monson in a game canceled due to lightning in the fifth inning.
Northwest 9, Spooner 2
Luke Sedin allowed two runs on five hits in six innings and struck out seven, and drove in two runs for his own cause.
Jace Nelson and Kole Paulsen also had two-hit games.
Northwood/Solon Springs 14, Birchwood/Winter 8
N/SS scored 10 of their runs over the last two innings to take the win. Abe Ahlberg and Kaden Corlett each had three hits for N/SS.
Dylan Taggart pitched three no-hitter relief innings for the pitcher’s victory.
