The Northland Pines women’s soccer team beat Baldwin-Woodville for the second time this season, this time 1-0 in overtime in the Division 4 regional final on Saturday.
“A well-played game with very similar teams,” said BW coach Mauritz Kool. “Both teams had chances but at the end of the first half they scored. We moved to try to equalize but we failed.
“The players never gave up until the last second. I am very proud of this group of players for everything they have done on and off the pitch.
No. 2 seed Northland Pines (9-9) advances to the divisional semi-final against No. 1 Washburn/Bayfield on June 9.
BW ends its season 10-4-1 and won’t lose Zoe Henderson until graduation.
“She gave it her all on the pitch,” Kool said. “His courage and leadership will be missed.
BW 7, Three Lakes/Phelps 0
The No. 3-seeded Blackhawks cruised to victory over No. 6 Three Lakes on June 2 in the first round of regional action.
“The team played a slower game but took care of business,” Kool said. “The defense was solid and our attack was very effective.”
Ella Schutz had a hat trick while Kylie Kastel scored two goals. Kaitlyn Allison and Alayna Brightbill scored their first goals of the season.
“The last day of school after and most likely a game on Saturday diverted attention a bit, but at the end of the first half things changed and we were able to score goals,” Kool concluded.
