Great NFL players take big step forward in second year of career

There are many ways for players to “get” into the NFL. But most of the time, the good players show up in their 2nd year.

While some players like Patrick Surtain II can prove to be important and a starting force as rookies, the game is usually too fast for them to really show what they can do. We hear the phrase “the game slows down” when it comes to player development.

I argue that’s an apt description of the difference between playing college football and lining up in the NFL as a pro. NFL players are strong, fast, weird athletes and when a player is in college, there just aren’t any situations where they’re surrounded by that kind of talent from a competitive standpoint. .

The Broncos have 13 players entering their second year in the league. I expect big steps forward from Javonte Williams, Patrick Surtain II, Caden Sterns and Quinn Meinerz. I feel like these 4 guys looked ready for 2022 at the end of their rookie years.

Apart from these 4 guys who should threaten for the starting positions if they don’t win them, I like the opportunities that Jonathan Cooper and Baron Browning have. Both have shown great athletic prowess and they have a chance to carve out a role as rotational pass rushers who can positively impact games.

And you, Broncos Country? Who do you envision taking a big step forward in their 2nd year in the NFL?
