A statement, translated from the club’s official website, read. “The company APOEL FOOTBALL (PUBLIC) LTD, announces the end of its cooperation with footballer Atdhe Nuhiu… We wish Atdhe good luck in his professional career and above all in his personal life.

In his last season at Hillsborough, Nuhiu became just the second player since the turn of the millennium to score more than 50 goals for the club (the other was Marcus Tudgay), and his exit certainly divided opinion among Wednesday fans.

Nuhiu played 29 games for the Cypriot side last season in all competitions, scoring his only UEFA Europa League goal in August.

It remains to be seen where he ends up now as he considers his options, but at 31, he’ll be eager to make sure he hits his next shot.
