Georgia football fans who love to watch NBC shows America’s Got Talent will see a familiar face tonight, like Isaiah McKenzie will be one of 12 NFL veterans singing on tonight’s show. Add that to the list of things you probably didn’t expect to read today.
The group, known collectively as the NFL Player’s Choir, will sing “Lean on Me” by Bill Withers, a classic song released in 1972.
The NFL Player’s Choir was originally formed in 2008 with 40 members, and they have grown over the years.
Isaiah McKenzie, a former Georgia football wide receiver, will sing along with former NFL players during prime time.
They often occur during Super Bowl Gospel Celebration, an NFL-sanctioned gospel concert held over Super Bowl weekend. McKenzie, who said his only singing experience was in his car or in the shower, was selected to join the choir by the NFL Player’s Association.
Isaiah McKenzie played at Georgia from 2014-2016 and quickly became one of the most electrifying players in Dawgs history. The Miami native finished his Bulldog career with 1,152 scrimmage yards and 11 rushing and receiving touchdowns.
His biggest impact came on special teams. McKenzie has returned five punts for touchdowns in his career, which remains a school record. He also had a kickoff return for a touchdown.
McKenzie’s most famous play as a Bulldog came against Missouri in his freshman year. With less than two minutes left in the game, quarterback Jacob Eason threw a dart at Isaiah for the game-tying touchdown. The Bulldogs would win that game 28-27, giving Kirby Smart his first SEC victory as a head coach.
He would finish that game with 10 catches, 122 receiving yards and two touchdowns.
McKenzie declared for the NFL Draft after the 2016 season and was drafted by the Denver Broncos in the fifth round. He joined the Buffalo Bills in 2018 and has proven to be a solid receiver for quarterback Josh Allen. He also jokingly called himself “the face of the Bills franchise”.
Dawg Nation is supporting Isaiah and the other members of the NFL Players Choir as they perform tonight on AGT. Break a leg!
