Darius Taylor discusses Iowa football offer

Iowa Football landed a rising prospect in the 2022 recruiting round for Walled Lake (MI) Koen Entringer of Western High. The Hawkeyes plunged back into the talent-laden prep schedule this week trying to secure another of its all-around athletes.

Defensive coordinator Phil Parker visited the school on Tuesday. He met coach Kory Cioroch and one of his star students, 2023 athlete Darius Taylor. Iowa offered him a scholarship.

“Iowa’s football program is great and stable,” Taylor told HN. “Coach Phil Parker came to meet my head coach and I yesterday and offered to be a great athlete and be very versatile.

“Coach Parker was cool. It was great meeting him.”

Iowa’s reputation predated Parker’s visit. Taylor heard about the Hawkeyes from Entringer.

“Koen told me he loved everything about Iowa since he arrived there. He and I are good friends,” Taylor said.

Taylor (5-11, 187) rushed 136 times for 1,379 yards and added 621 receiving yards, scoring 24 total touchdowns last fall. He returned kicks and fumbles for scores. He intercepted four passes.

Boston College, Bowling Green, Central Michigan, Eastern Michigan, Pittsburgh, Syracuse, Toledo, Vanderbilt, and Western Michigan reportedly offered Taylor scholarships. Wisconsin and others have expressed interest. He visited Eastern Michigan, Cincinnati, Central Michigan, Toledo, Miami (OH), Syracuse, Michigan, Michigan State, Western Michigan, Louisville and Pittsburgh.

Rivals lists him as a three-star prospect. The scouting department considers him Michigan’s No. 14 player for 23, regardless of position.

Although he has a good knowledge base about Iowa, Taylor is looking to learn a lot more.

“I want to learn more about the program itself and life on the college campus. I want to get on campus and I’m going to work that out with the coaches very soon,” he said.

Ivy League schools are also interested in Taylor. Academics will play an important role in his final decision on where to go to college.

“I haven’t chosen a particular major yet, but it will be in business,” he said.
