Best performances of the CIAC football championship match


Josh Boganski, Maloney: The running back ran for 244 yards on 47 carries with four touchdowns in Maloney’s State Class M 35-21 win over Windsor. Boganski’s four touchdowns were Maloney’s first four of the game.

Tighe Cummiskey, Darien: Run 188 yards on 25 carries with a touchdown. His first 40-yard rushing quarterback saw Darien score in his LL 42-7 Class State Championship win over Fairfield Prep.

David Evanchick, Darien: The Blue Wave defense dominated Fairifeld Prep in the LL class final, limiting the Jesuits to just one touchdown. Evanchick led the effort with two sacks and a fumble recovery in the third quarter to establish the score.

Soren Rief, Killingly: The second scored two touchdowns from 17 and 28 yards in the third quarter in Killingly’s 28-14 M-Class State title win over Rockville. Rief’s two touchdowns were the eventual game winners for Killingly. He ran the ball 17 times for 183 total yards.

Jérémie Stafford, Darien: Stafford rushed for three touchdowns in Darien’s victory for the State Class LL title, including one for 54 yards. His touchdowns have all been scored consecutively, knocking out any hope of a comeback Fairfield Prep might have had.

Kuron Wiggins, Maloney: The defensive backfielder known as the “Ball Hawks” had forced several turnovers in the opening two rounds, but it was Wiggins who shone in the championship game with two interceptions. His interceptions were his seventh and eighth of the season, surpassing the previous school record with teammate Rashawn Shelton.

Ted Williams, Cromwell / Portland: The Cromwell / Portland Swiss Army Knife scored his team’s three touchdowns in the Class S Championship win over Bloomfield, 21-6. Williams recovered from a fumble in the end zone and received a 46 yard touchdown in the first half. He also had a 66-yard pick 6 in the third quarter and recovered a Bloomfield fumble in defense.
