Looking at the 2021 Notre Dame football team, there’s a lot to like about the defensive side of the ball. The unit is brimming with veteran talent and, with an elite defensive coordinator like Marcus Freeman, they are expected to be one of the best in the country.
However, to reach their full potential, the Irish will need new players to strengthen themselves, and we take a look at three newcomers in defense who could have the chance to make a big impact this fall.

When it comes to linebacking, Notre Dame’s football program has one of the best coaches at all levels. Not only is Marcus Freeman the first linebacker coach at the college level, he’s also been offered jobs as a linebacker coach at the NFL level, and he will have a tremendous talent to work with at Prince Kollie.
The 2021 Irish have a ton of talent as a linebacker, including some veterans who are expected to lead the team on this side of the ball. However, Kollie is one player I’ve been able to see soar in the depth chart this summer, as he was a four-star prospect who was ranked among the top 20 linebackers nationwide by Rivals.
